The Church of Our Lady of Kapnikarea is the oldest Byzantine temple in Athens, whose history began almost 1,000 years ago. Externally and in its interior, the church looks rather modest, but this fact in no way detracts from its spiritual and historical significance.

The Church of Panagia Kapnikarei has existed since the 11th century. The aesthetics of the Byzantine churches of Athens found its perfect expression in the architecture of Kapnikarea. In the church you can see frescoes from 1942 to 1954 by the famous artist poet Fotis Kondoglu. The peaceful interior of the church is in tune with its appearance. I admire the harmonious and refined proportions for their perfection.

The oldest church in the Greek capital. The full name is the Church of Our Lady of Kapnikarei. This is a Byzantine church built around 1050 AD. It is, as it were, "embedded" in the architecture of a modern city. Ermou Street, where this church is located, is the shopping and richest in Athens. There are always a lot of tourists.
